Monday morning we left Indio, CA and traveled West towards Lake Havasu, AZ. It is a 3-4 hour drive through the desert and very unexciting. Jim and Jackie caught up with us that evening. They have a vacation house, and a condo in Lake Havasu. We parked our camper in the driveway of their house and stayed there.
The lake is a hot spot for young adults during spring break and a winter get away for retired folks. Its approximate population, full time, is 52,537. It is excruciatingly hot. 107 degrees. When I remarked about the heat, I was told that 107 was nice. It hits in the 120’s normally in September. Can you imagine? Put me in a bean pot and I’ll be done tomorrow for dinner.
The core attraction, beside the water, is the London Bridge. In 1968 it was bought by the founder of the city, Robert P. McCulloch, for 2.5 million dollars, from the city of London. It is 930 feet long and connects and island to the main land. The bridge was disassembled in London and brick by brick, numbered as they tore it down. It was reassembled and re opened in 1971. The transportation and reassembly cost yet another 7 million dollars. It is the second largest attraction in AZ with the Grand Canyon being first.
Along the walkway built around the bridge are specialty shops, bars and restaurants. It is particularly crowded in the summer months.
Tuesday during breakfast we realized that all four of us had ideas of what we wanted to do for the day. Unfortunately they were four different ideas. We decided to let go of all our individual ideas and hop on the ferry to the casino.
We had a blast. Jackie wins every time. She is so incredibly lucky. On the boat ride over we were practicing our ‘OMG, I just won the jackpot’, look! LOL. It was pretty funny. Wouldn’t you know it, I won! I was soooo excited! I wanted to do my, omg I won look, but no one was around! Lol.
I literally skipped through the casino looking for everyone and when I found them I expressed, ‘my look’! Wahoo!
When we got back home after the ‘big win’, we showered and went out to dinner. They took us to a local restaurant/bar and it was scrumptious. Jim and Jackie headed back to CA that evening and Tommy and I headed back to the camper. The next morning we drove north 58 miles to Laughlin, NV. We spent the night in the casinos there and had dinner at O’Leary’s. AWESOME local place. (Jim knows the owner, what a surprise). Jim sent us there. Today Tommy extended our stay here so we can go back to the same restaurant tonight for dinner. Tomorrow we will pull out of here and head south towards Albuquerque. We have a week before we need to arrive there for the balloon festival so we will meander our way down.
You'd think we asked them to pose |
